This April 19 and May 10, Sky Island Alliance is hosting a two-part class at Tucson’s Reid Park Zoo for folks interested in joining FotoFauna and learning how to set up a wildlife camera in their yard as part of our community science project.

In part one, participants will learn about conservation efforts by Sky Island Alliance and Reid Park Zoo and learn how to operate and install backyard wildlife cameras. In part two, participants will learn how to identify animals observed on camera and contribute their camera observations to SIA’s FotoFauna initiative. Students can bring their own camera or request to borrow one, although a limited number of loaner cameras are available. Optionally, students can purchase a wildlife camera kit with everything needed to get started for $100. If interested in borrowing a camera, please email our FotoFauna project lead and course instructor Eamon Harrity by April 12.

  • Course fee: $50 per adult (kids free)
  • Optional fee: $100 for a complete camera kit
  • Dates: April 19, 1-3 p.m. and May 10, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Location: Reid Park Zoo, 3400 E Zoo Ct, Tucson, AZ 85716
