Springs around the Sky Island region are known to be a critical foundation for biodiversity — providing reliable water and lush refuge for numerous species across the landscape, even during the driest seasons and in places without rivers or lakes. Despite their critical importance, springs face a variety of threats including aquifer depletion, cattle trampling, invasive species, and sedimentation from erosion. We use Spring Seeker data collected by volunteers to plan spring rescues in both Arizona and Sonora. Through our science-based conservation approach, we aim to protect springs’ natural and cultural resources for the future.

Below is a sampling of springs where we’ve done on-the-ground restoration.

  • McGrew Spring — Kartchner Caverns State Park, Arizona
  • Agua Dulce — Rancho Los Fresnos, Sonora
  • Green Spring — Santa Catalina District, Coronado National Forest, Arizona
  • Cascade Spring — Santa Catalina District, Coronado National Forest, Arizona
  • Bird Nest Spring — Santa Catalina District, Coronado National Forest, Arizona
  • Maverick Spring — Santa Catalina District, Coronado National Forest, Arizona
  • Busch Spring & Mint Spring — Santa Catalina District, Coronado National Forest, Arizona
