Reforestation at Rancho Agua de Enmedio
Rancho Agua de Enmedio Cananea, SonoraWant to camp with us in Sonora and help plant new trees and other native species along a beautiful creek? We’re hosting another volunteer weekend at Rancho Agua de Enmedio, just southeast of Cananea and nestled in a canyon full of sycamores and oaks. Folks will meet up at Plaza Juárez in Cananea at 10 a.m. on Friday. We’ll stay through Sunday afternoon. Erosion Control in the Catalinas
Join us in the Santa Catalina Mountains for a weekend building erosion-control structures in areas burned by the 2020 Bighorn Fire. Together, we can protect springs from landslides and ensure the mountain absorbs even more rain and snowmelt, recharging the aquifer that plants, wildlife, and people like us depend on. Note: Carpooling from Tucson is available, and day-trippers are most welcome.

FotoFauna Two-Part Class in Tucson
Tucson Botanical Garden 2150 North Alvernon Way, Tucson, ArizonaThis Oct. 3 and Oct. 24, Sky Island Alliance is hosting a two-part class at the Tucson Botanical Garden for folks interested in joining FotoFauna and learning how to set up a wildlife camera in their yard as part of our community science project. We’d love for you to join us!

Coffee Break: Springs of the Chiricahua Mountains
VirtualSprings emerge throughout the Chiricahua Mountains, a beloved sky island on the border between southeast Arizona and New Mexico. Thanks to the efforts of dozens of Spring Seeker volunteers who have surveyed these springs over the years, we understand just how important these water sources are for people, plants, and wildlife. Join us for this virtual springs tour led by Emily Burns, Sky Island Alliance’s Program Director for the Northern Sky Islands, to hear about how important springs are, the condition of springs in the Chiricahuas, how we protect and restore springs, and ways you can get involved.

Springs Restoration in the Whetstones

Closed to the public, the spring is more than two miles from any other water source and is a favorite haunt of coatis, black bears, mountain lions, coyotes, and birds.

Celebrate: 2026 Festival of the Sky Islands

Let’s celebrate in an event filled with education, art, and conservation. This year, we are placing special emphasis on the Sky Islands’ aquatic ecosystems, including springs, rivers, and fascinating creatures like Tarahumara salamanders. This event is made possible through a collective commitment, with the participation of organizations, students, artists, teachers, and schools, sharing their talent and knowledge through workshops, talks, exhibits, artistic performances, and community activities.
