Cananea lies at the heart of the Sky Islands region, a place of rich biodiversity where rivers are born and culture thrives. This gathering is part of the celebration of the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (2026), championed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, which seeks to recognize the importance of grasslands, biodiversity conservation, and the livelihoods of rural communities.
