Aravaipa Canyon Restoration

During this trip we are continuing a new task in Aravaipa Canyon - removing an invasive plant called vinca (or periwinkle) from the understory of the creek banks. This will require digging and fastidious removal of root material, with tools provided by Sky Island Alliance. We'll be bending, digging, and getting dirty. We will also be installing native plants in previously cleared areas to improve pollinator habitat.

We all need food, water and shelter to survive, right? Help improve those qualities for the native wildlife of this lush area just north of Catalina State Park in this one-day event. This is a joint project with the Genius Loci Foundation and the Arizona Native Plant Society.

Habitat Restoration at Gila Cliff Dwellings NM

Sky Island Alliance is teaming up with the National Park Service to restore a recently-burned hill slope near the main ruin loop at the Monument. Volunteers will be tasked with eradicating non-native plants, installing native plants in their place, and conducting erosion control.
