In this virtual Coffee Break from Feb. 29, 2024, we were joined by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist Marit Alanen, who is the agency’s jaguar expert and liaison to the Jaguar Recovery Team. She led us through the history of when jaguars were first listed as endangered in the U.S. and then discussed recovery planning for the species and critical habitat designations, including challenges and opportunities along the way.
