In this virtual Coffee Break, Sky Island Alliance staff share an update on our Border Wildlife Study and the last three years of wildlife activity along 30 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border in southeast Arizona. From the grassland headwaters of the Santa Cruz River to the oak woodlands of the Patagonia and Huachuca mountains, our camera array has continuously monitored wildlife through the 2020 drought, wildfires, intense monsoons of 2021 and 2022, and during Arizona’s shipping-container wall construction. Our team shares their favorite photos from the study, trends observed during this three-year span, and how these data are being applied to guide border policy.
