Wilderness Waters: October Spring Surveys
October 1, 2020 - October 31, 2020
Join a SIA staff member OR another volunteer in the field for a physically-distanced spring survey!
Did you know that springs on U.S. Forest Service land might not be protected unless they are surveyed to validate the water rights? Come learn how to use our new Spring Seeker to survey wilderness springs and other waters this fall in Coronado National Forest. We’ll be focusing on the Mt. Wrightson, Miller Peak, and Rincon Wilderness areas. Group size will be limited to 2-3 people total, and we will all drive separately to the trailhead. Having a 4WD vehicle is a plus! Hikes range from 2-12 miles total, with varying degrees of elevation change and amounts of off-trail bushwhacking.
To sign up, check the available dates listed below, and then email [email protected]. Make sure to tell us when you would like to go, your hiking abilities, and your vehicle type. We’ll plan each trip based on the abilities of the people signed up.
Check back for additional dates in November, or email us if you’d like to join us, but can’t make any of these dates. If you’ve already been out with SIA staff and would like to plan your own trip please reach out and we’ll get you on the calendar.
