Wildlife Camera Workshops Inspire in Sonora

Earlier this summer, Sky Island Alliance joined two separate events to help teach a new generation how to install and use remote cameras to promote wildlife conservation.

On May 30-31 (see photos above), the “Atrapando Miradas” (Catching Glances) workshop was held in collaboration with Cuenca Los Ojos and the Museo Arte Patrimonio in Agua Prieta, Sonora. During the event, participants discussed how wildlife cameras have changed in conservation over the years, how nature inspires art, and how to improve photography practice, among other topics. In a second workshop session, the group discussed the importance, use, and operation of wildlife cameras. Then at the end, participants joined a hands-on session to install one.

On June 7 (see photos below), a “Photo Walk” was held at Cuenca Los Ojos as part of the Bachicui Arts Festival in Agua Prieta, Sonora.

This consisted of a walk through the San Bernardino ranch, taking photos of the different landscapes and wildlife, and setting up wildlife cameras, putting into practice what was learned during the workshop. We hope to share results soon from the cameras set up at this event.
