In question is whether our aquifers will be protected from the proposed mine and all the groundwater pumping and toxic tailings produced.
Based on initial draft permit details, there are several red flags. For instance, the permit uses outdated best-practice guidelines, doesn’t consider recent data on climate change, and is lacking in compliance wells and transparency. The mine plan has also shifted since the original application, and these changes demand full review.
