Help Sample Tucson Plants to Study Fossil Fuel Emissions

Want to help study fossil fuel emissions in Tucson by sampling invasive plants? We have a community science project going for all of April 2024 and welcome folks to join us. In this online training, SIA Program Director Emily Burns walks us through the steps of how to participate in this innovative study using radiocarbon dating. Through the training, you’ll learn why plants growing in Tucson are a good data source to document emissions and how to sample the common plant London rocket for the project. To be a volunteer, all you need is a smartphone with the free iNaturalist app and ability to sample along roadsides in Tucson.
