Conservation SpecialistMy name is Gerardo Martínez, and I’m originally from Moctezuma, Sonora. I have a bachelor’s degree in biology from the Universidad de la Sierra. In 2017, I started working in the Bavispe Flora and Fauna Protection Area, where I was part of biological monitoring and environmental emergency response crews, primarily helping fight wildfires. In 2022, I began working directly with Mexico’s National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP) as an operations technician in APFF Bavispe, where my duties included biological monitoring, environmental education, and wildfire suppression, among other projects.
Outside my professional experience as a biologist, I’ve also had the opportunity to live and work alongside ranching, as I come from a family that makes its living from it.
I’m grateful to Sky Island Alliance for the opportunity to work as a conservation specialist, where I’ll apply my knowledge and skills to make sustainable use of natural resources and restore places that have been affected by human activities.
