Christian Aguilar Murrieta

Pronouns: She/Her/Ella

I was born and raised in the Baja California peninsula, in Mexico, where I developed a deep interest in exploring the rural communities of the Sonoran Desert and gained a great love and respect for the unique flora and fauna of this region. I came to Tucson a decade ago. This city inspired me and has kept me active in gardening and rainwater harvesting. I am currently working toward my master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, in addition to working at the University of Arizona as a research assistant, studying the use of public parks, their microclimates, as well as best practices for the use of native plants and green stormwater infrastructure in urban landscapes. I also work closely with the Sustainable Built Environments students from the UArizona microcampus in Peru, helping them have a more enriching experience during their stay in Tucson. It’s an honor to serve as a member of the Sky Island Alliance board. I admire their efforts to raise awareness, educate, and inspire on both sides of the border — and I hope to be of great help in their work.
