Chances are, if you have read anything about Sky Island Alliance’s work the last few years, you’ve enjoyed firsthand the amazing writing of Anna Sofia. After working on staff as our communications lead since October 2020, Anna is now embarking on a new step in her professional career.
During her time here, Anna produced on average of 120 communication messages a month across a wide range of platforms including our website, social media, outreach events, and print newsletters. She’s helped us tell more stories about our work and connect to more people, even as the pandemic raged through our community. She also made advances in our advocacy work in the borderlands as we contested the wall, I-11, and called for better protection for Sky Island springs.
I first met Anna 2019, when she was a freelance writer covering the threat of border construction in the Patagonia Mountains. I also had the pleasure of working with her as a collaborating partner on the Border Wildlife Study before she joined our staff. We’ll really miss her as a colleague and are grateful for everything she has done on behalf of the Sky Islands. Join us in wishing Anna well in her next chapter.
