Sky Island Alliance is pleased to welcome Micah Kaufmann (they/them) to our wildlife program team for the 2021-2022 school year. Micah is a part of the University of Arizona’s Earth Grant internship program, an opportunity that places students who are passionate about the environment and community resilience with local organizations to further their careers.
Micah will be working closely with Meagan Bethel, our Wildlife Specialist, this year on furthering the Border Wildlife Study and FotoFauna projects. Micah will learn how to process and analyze photo data, help with community outreach and education, and of course accompany us on trips to the field!
Micah is currently working on their undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona with a major in Environmental Science and a minor in Anthropology. They have a special interest on applying traditional ecological knowledge to field work. They love getting to know the local wildlife and honing their identification skills and hope to one day be able to work in remediation and conservation of threatened habitats.
