The Sky Island region spans southern Arizona, southwest New Mexico, and northern Sonora. Six biotic influences converge on a range of 55 mountain ranges towering over desert and grasslands. This convergence creates an incredible diversity of habitat and a home for more than 7,000 species, including black bears, jaguars, more than half of the continent’s birds, and creatures found nowhere else on Earth.
